Welcome to Cinema Italiano 2010
A Welcome Message from Margherita Balbo Parrent, Cinema Italiano Founder and Director through a short film by Thomas Takemoto-Chock, the 2008 Cinema Italiano Future Filmmaker Award recipient.
Now in its 7th Year! The festival shares the best in Italian cinema with Honolulu's film lovers with an eye toward artistic merit, cultural relevance, and diversity. Cinema Italiano is a strong collaborative affair with the Friends of Italy Society of Hawaii, Kahala Mall, Consolidated Kahala Theatre, Kahala Resort, Movie Museum and Ferrari/Maserati of Hawaii. The 2009 festival's first appearance at the Consolidated Kahala Theatre drew the best audience in festival history. The Kahala Cinema features multiple screens, state of the art technology, convenient ticketing through Fandango.com (tickets can be purchased at the door as well), and convenient parking. Of particular note this year, two full length feature Slow Food films, Terra Madre and Wind that Blows Around are not to be missed. Sponsored by Slow Foods Oahu and Whole Foods, one program features a documentary about Terra Madre 2006, exploring the spiritual, sensual and intellectual connection people have with food and The Wind that Blows Around is a powerful film on the challenges of attaining sustainability in a small mountain community.
Thanks to community support, individual and corporate contributions, volunteers, the festival's five talented enthusiastic generous jurors, Edgy Lee, Bobbi Thompson, Neal Israel, Bonni Lee, Jim Burke and Master of Ceremonies, Rick Blangiardi, PR by Cyrina, and Honolulu Weekly, StarAdvertiser... and many many outstanding supporters, the festival is privileged to screen the films, welcome Italian filmmakers, present films by our scholarship winners and enjoy 4 days of Italian films. Grazie to supporters, and welcome new supporters to the 7th Annual Cinema Italiano in Hawai'i!
